Kathmandu - It started with a simple idea: to support local food producers and encourage the development of trusted, high-quality produce in Nepal.
In 2011, Le Sherpa Restaurant opened its doors in collaboration with both local and international chefs, restaurateurs, and architects. It quickly established itself as a premier dining destination in Kathmandu, proving that an international-level experience could thrive by using local ingredients, chefs, and a talented team.
The first step toward expanding this philosophy was the launch of the Farmers Market. Every Saturday morning, the lush garden of Le Sherpa transforms into a paradise for foodies, nature lovers, and those seeking Nepal’s finest offerings. Fresh produce steals the spotlight, with stalls brimming with everything from seasonal vegetables, leafy greens, to exotic fruits that are a rare find in the city. But the fun doesn’t stop at veggies—artisan goods such as homemade cheeses, freshly baked bread, jams, and organic honey are also crowd favorites. And let's not forget the local crafts—handmade pottery, textiles, and other unique items that celebrate Nepal’s vibrant culture and skilled craftsmanship.

If you’re more of a coffee connoisseur, grab a cup and relax while chatting with friends or other market-goers, as the atmosphere is perfect for socializing and discovering new things. The market has become a centerpiece for locals, expats, and food enthusiasts and more. Whether shopping for the finest ingredients or simply soaking in the lively atmosphere, this is a place to connect with the community, enjoy local produce, and discover something special.
Hence, it celebrates Nepalese traditions with a dash of international flair, bringing together farmers, vendors, food lovers, musicians, and artisans from all walks of life. It is the place to find the best organic produce, enjoy coffee, and uncover new treasures. The Farmers Market takes place every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Evolution of Le Sherpa Farmers Market
Co-founded by Namgyal Sherpa, CEO of Sherpa Hospitality Group, and Francois Driard, Director of Himalayan French Cheese, the market connects Nepal’s farmers with the consumers. Over the years, it has become a cornerstone for both locals and travellers, celebrating the vital role of farmers in Nepal’s culture and economy.

The overwhelming response to the Farmer’s Market paved the way for the next chapter: the creation of the Farm Shop. Launched during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, this initiative sought to connect farmers and producers with consumers through an online delivery system. It became a lifeline for local communities, ensuring access to sustainable, healthy food options while fostering meaningful relationships. With two locations already established, the Farm Shop continues to grow, reflecting Le Sherpa’s broader mission.
The Journey of Le Sherpa Concept
With these foundations laid, the Le Sherpa Concept emerged as an overarching vision that united a diverse family of boutique businesses dedicated to quality, sustainability, and creating experiences that bring people together. From dining establishments to retail ventures, each initiative under the Le Sherpa Concept represents a step toward redefining Kathmandu's culinary and cultural landscape.
