CAN Submits Recommendations to Government for AI Policy Reform Concept Paper

Kathmandu – The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) has submitted a concept paper containing key recommendations for Nepal’s first-ever national Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy to the government. A delegation from CAN handed over the concept paper to the Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

The concept paper emphasizes that if Nepal promotes the development and research of new technologies, the country can achieve self-reliance in the AI sector and compete globally. Additionally, it highlights the need to prioritize digital inclusion, human rights protection, and ethical considerations in AI development. CAN also recommends formulating clear policies and laws to regulate the use of AI technology.

Furthermore, the paper stresses the importance of collaboration between various sectors to ensure the effective development and application of AI.

Titled "AI Usage and Practice in Nepal," the concept paper was prepared based on a review and recommendations by CAN's AI Coordinator and Vice President Chiranjibi Adhikari, Professor Dr. Sudan Jha, Advocate Diksha Raut, and Ganga Bhandari. The document presents various recommendations focusing on technology innovation, AI research, ethical AI development, data security, and regulatory frameworks.
