Manavsewa Ashram – Manavsewa Khabar

Former King Gyanendra Shah and elected officials cancel the public Dashain tika ceremony.

Somber Bada Dashain 2026 in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Former King Gyanendra Shah announced through his communication secretariat at Nirmal Niwas that he will not host the traditional public tika and jamara distribution program on Bijaya Dashami. The communication secretariat at Nirmal Niwas issued a notice on Sunday stating that former King Gyanendra Shah has cancelled his public Dashain tika ceremony this year. The 15-day Dashain celebration is Nepal’s longest festival. People return from all parts of the world and from different parts of the country to celebrate together.

The country’s elected officials also reflect national mourning and stand in solidarity with grief-stricken families and communities.

Nepali President Ramchandra Paudel is not offering Dashain tika to members of the public on Bada Dashain this year.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the public tika programs will be curtailed due to the impact of natural disasters and recovery efforts.

Organizations like the Nepali Congress canceled their annual Kojagrat Purnima Dashain tea reception.

Certain local or overseas communities, such as select NRNA chapter events, have been called off to stand in grief with disaster-hit regions.

The decision was made in the aftermath of large-scale displacements, heavy loss of life, and urgent relocations due to landslide-triggered floods and continuous heavy rainfall in August, September, and October.

In solidarity with grief-stricken families and communities in Nepal.

Flood victims and displaced families in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Gorkha, and parts of Dhading, Chitwan, Doti, and other regions are not celebrating Bada Dashain due to floods, and displaced families and temporary settlements are focused on survival rather than celebrating traditional festivities.

If you prefer not to take part in traditional friends and family gatherings, you can look at alternative options such as dropping by Manavsewa Ashram and humbling yourself and appreciating the fresh, drizzly weather, having been spared from the death toll and economic destitution like many Aamas and Buwas in the Ashram’s care.
