A New Beginning: Ratnanagar Becomes a 'Street-Dependent Person Free' City

A monumental step in Chitwan: No one will be left living destitute on the streets of Ratnanagar.

CHITWAN: Ratnanagar in Chitwan has officially been declared a 'Cooperative Road-Dependent Man-Free City-Counsil'. This landmark humanitarian milestone was formally announced on Thursday during a special program co-organized by the Ratnanagar City-Counsil and Manavsewa Ashram.
 
With this declaration, local authorities aim to ensure that no individual in Ratnanagar has to live on the streets as a destitute, homeless, disabled person, or orphan.
 
Key Dignitaries and Stakeholders Present
 
The declaration program saw significant participation from local government leaders, security officials, and social workers, including:
  • Narayan Prasad Adhikari – Chief of District Coordination Committee Chitwan (Chief Guest)
  • Pralad Sapkota – Chief of Ratnanagar City-Council
  • Yadav Prasad Pathak – Deputy Chief of Ratnanagar City-Council
  • DSP Subash Bhatta – Chief of Area Police Office, Tandi
  • Ramji Adhikari – Founding Central Chairman of Manavsewa Ashram
During the event, speakers emphasized that strong cooperation between local government levels, security agencies, and social organizations is vital for protecting human rights and ensuring dignified lives for vulnerable citizens.
 
Manavsewa Ashram’s 13-Year Humanitarian Legacy
 
For over a decade, Manavsewa Ashram has been at the forefront of rescuing, treating, and protecting street-dependent people in Nepal. The social organization focuses on:
  • Rescuing destitute individuals from the streets.
  • Providing medical treatment, food, shelter, and education.
  • Re-establishing family ties and reuniting individuals with their homes.
3rd Mechi–Mahakali National Rescue Journey Commences
 
In alignment with these ongoing humanitarian efforts, the 3rd Mechi–Mahakali National Rescue Journey is currently underway. Co-organized by Manavsewa Ashram and the Ani Choying Drolma Foundation, this month-long campaign runs from May 10 to June 5, 2026.
 
Campaign Highlights & Objectives
  • Inauguration Details: The journey officially departed from the Manavsewa Ashram Raniban branch in Kathmandu.
  • Special Blessings: The humanitarian team was sent off with blessings from legendary Nepali artist Madan Krishna Shrestha.
  • The Mission: To ensure no individual is left forgotten, homeless, or struggling under the open sky, especially with the approaching monsoon season.
