From Burden to Belonging

Hari - From Burden to Belonging

Hari Ojha, 31, grew up in Tikathali, Lalitpur -  a life once ordinary, then quietly shattered. His mother passed away when he was young, and although time moved forward, the emptiness inside him did not. His father soon remarried; the family expanded, but Hari’s world felt smaller. Love was replaced by absence, and home slowly became a place that echoed with neglect rather than comfort.

Years later, another strike of fate arrived. Hari, a proud skilled mechanic who once spent his days repairing cars with confidence and joy, met with an accident that changed everything. A tire crushed his spine. Paralysis below the waist took away his work, his strength, and eventually, his place in his own home.

His days blurred into pain - a wheelchair, a catheter tube, wounds that refused to heal, and a heart that felt forgotten. Even family began to see him as a burden, a weight they did not know how to carry.

Thirteen months ago, on the suggestion of an elder brother, Hari was brought to Manavsewa Ashram, Raniban. Here, surrounded by others who carry silent battles like his own, Hari slowly began to breathe again. He speaks softly, with pauses that hold entire chapters of sorrow yet beneath that quiet voice lives resilience.

“Sometimes,” he says, “the ashram feels more like home than home. I feel safer here.”

Safety - something simple, yet once distant. In the ashram, Hari found care. He found friends who laugh with him, who understand what it means to hurt and to heal. He found dignity, something he had long forgotten belonged to him.

Hari’s story is just one drop from a vast ocean of lives reclaimed through humanity. Where society once turned away, the ashram turned toward them - offering shelter, treatment, and more importantly, a place where forgotten people become family again.

Here, hope is not a miracle. It is daily work. It is humanity in practice. MSA
