9 Street-Dependent People Rescued in Jhapa on Day 1 | Manavsewa Ashram

 

JHAPA: Nine street-dependent people have been successfully rescued from various areas of Jhapa district. The rescue operation took place on the very first day of the Mechi-Mahakali National Rescue Yatra.  

This humanitarian campaign is being actively conducted through a collaboration between the Manavsewa Ashram and the Ani Choying Drolma Foundation. The initiative aims to make Nepalese streets free of helpless, abandoned, and street-dependent individuals. The rescued citizens from Jhapa are now receiving proper care, shelter, and medical attention at the ashram facility.

The Mechi-Mahakali National Rescue Journey-2083 was launched from Kathmandu on Baisakh 10, 2083 BS (approximately May 11, 2026), with a noble mission to ensure no one is forced to live a miserable life on the streets, especially with the rainy season approaching. This third edition of the campaign is a collaborative effort between the Manavsewa Ashram and the Ani Choying Drolma Foundation.  

Campaign Highlights: 

  • Journey Start: The campaign began on Monday (May 11, 2026) in Jhapa, with a formal inauguration by lighting a lamp at the Mechi Bridge. 
  • Mission Focus: The team is dedicated to rescuing helpless people from public spaces and rehabilitating them before the monsoon rains. 
  • Rescue Team: A team of 26 volunteers is active in rescuing citizens without family support for rehabilitation in Ashrams. 
  • Coverage Areas: The team visited and rescued individuals in Kakarbhitta, Mechinagar, Birtamod, Arjundhara, and Buddhashanti rural municipalities.  

The campaign, which concludes upon reaching the Mahakali River, focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating citizens living in destitute conditions to protect them during the rainy season.

A total of 9 individuals—5 women and 4 men—were rescued from [Mechinagar Municipality (4), Arjundhara (3), and Buddhashanti Rural Municipality (2). These individuals have been transferred to the Manavsewa Ashram in Amadangi, Mechinagar-4, for protection.

Manavsewa Ashram’s Street Rescue Campaign Reaches Itahari 
The ongoing rescue mission to rehabilitate street-dependent individuals is moving to Itahari, Sunsari, via Damak, Jhapa, tomorrow. Following the campaign's launch on Baisakh 27, which runs until Jestha 22, Manavsewa Ashram requests public cooperation. Please inform the nearest police office or the Ashram if you see anyone living on the streets to facilitate this initiative.
