Lighting Lamps of Compassion | Manavsewa Ashram’s Mechi-Mahakali National Rescue Journey 2026

Walk with us as volunteers—led by Ani Choying Drolma and Manavsewa Ashram—travel the length and breadth of Nepal, offering a second chance to those living on the streets.

MECHI, NEPAL — In a moving display of humanity, the Manavsewa Ashram's Mechi-Mahakali National Rescue Journey 2026 officially commenced on the May 10, 2026 at the eastern border of Nepal. Gathering on the historic Mechi Bridge connecting Nepal and India, volunteers, state officials, and citizens lit ceremonial lamps to symbolize the triumph of compassion over neglect.

The ambitious month-long campaign aims to rescue, treat, and rehabilitate helpless, mentally challenged, and abandoned individuals living on the streets across the entire length of the country.

A Mission Deeply Rooted in Love

A Mission Rooted in Love: This nationwide initiative is driven by a profound philosophy of human dignity. Quoted at the rescue mission, Ramjee Adhikari, Founder and Central Chairperson of Manavsewa Ashram, highlighted that physical sustenance is only a fraction of what vulnerable people truly need.

The Philosophy of Compassion

"People are hungrier for love than for food" - Ramjee Adikari Founder & Chairperson, Manavsewa Ashram.

While food sustains the body, Ramjee Adhikari emphasizes that it is love, acceptance, and a sense of belonging that truly restores the human spirit. The nationwide journey is designed not just as a rescue mission, but as a sweeping national awakening to ensure no citizen is left abandoned on the streets.

Core Pillars of the Movement

  • Dignity Beyond Survival: Fulfilling basic physiological needs is essential, but psychosocial healing—rebuilding self-worth and offering genuine empathy—is paramount.
  • Reuniting Families: The ultimate goal is healing fractured bonds and reintegrating rescued individuals back into their homes and communities.
  • National Awakening: Promoting a cultural shift where society actively values vulnerable populations and prevents the neglect of elderly people

From East to West: The Rescue Trajectory

The rescue convoy will travel along the East-West Highway and major subsidiary roads, stopping in various municipalities to rescue exposed populations before concluding the journey at the western Mahakali border.

  • Official Launch: The campaign formally began on May 10, 2026 (Baishakh 27, 2083 BS).
  • The Route: Broad coverage across all seven provinces
  • Duration: The nationwide rescue tour is scheduled to run through June 5, 2026.
  • Key Figures: The initiative is made by Manavsewa Ashram in partnership with the Ani Choying Drolma Foundation.
  • Mission: To safely house and support vulnerable individuals, with a broader goal of ensuring no citizen is forced to live on the streets.
  • The Goal: A street-dependent, homeless-free Nepal

Manavsewa Ashram has been a vanguard of social service in Nepal, currently operating co-humanitarian centers in multiple districts. This 2026 national journey marks another major milestone toward their vision of eliminating street-vulnerability nationwide.
