10 Homeless People Rescued from Streets in Jhapa

Jhapa, October 14, 2024: In a significant humanitarian effort, Nepal Manav Sewa Ashram, in collaboration with local government bodies, rescued 10 homeless individuals from the streets of Jhapa on Sunday. The rescue operation is part of the Ashram’s larger initiative, the “Mechi-Mahakali Yatra,” a nationwide campaign to assist and rehabilitate street-dependent individuals across Nepal. The 10 rescued individuals, who had been living in difficult conditions on the streets, were provided with immediate shelter, food, and medical care. Many of them had been suffering from malnutrition, illness, and the harsh realities of life without a home. The rescue team ensured that they received the necessary attention and are now being moved to safe housing facilities, where they will receive continued care and rehabilitation services.

The “Mechi-Mahakali Yatra” marks a bold and compassionate move by the Ashram to address the growing issue of homelessness in Nepal. Starting from the easternmost district of Mechi, the campaign aims to travel across the country, reaching the westernmost point in Mahakali, rescuing and rehabilitating homeless individuals along the way.

“The situation of homeless people in Nepal is critical, and many of them are left on the streets without any support,” said a spokesperson from Nepal Manav Sewa Ashram. “Through this campaign, we want to ensure that no one is left behind, and we are committed to helping as many street-dependent individuals as possible, offering them a new chance at life.”

Local authorities have expressed their support for the Ashram’s initiative, stating that this collaboration will help address one of the most pressing social issues in the region. “The Ashram’s efforts are commendable, and we are working together to ensure that the rescued individuals receive the care and protection they need,” said a representative from the local government.

The “Mechi-Mahakali Yatra” is expected to continue for several months, with rescue teams visiting various districts across Nepal. The campaign not only focuses on immediate rescue efforts but also on long-term rehabilitation, offering the rescued individuals opportunities to reintegrate into society. The Ashram provides mental health support, vocational training, and other services to help them regain independence and dignity.

As the Ashram continues its journey, it calls on communities and other organizations to come forward and support this noble cause. The goal is not just to rescue homeless individuals but to create a more compassionate and inclusive society where everyone has a chance to live with dignity.

The recent rescue in Jhapa is just the beginning, with many more districts to be covered in the coming months. The Nepal Manav Sewa Ashram remains hopeful that through this campaign, hundreds of street-dependent individuals across Nepal will find hope, shelter, and a path to a better future.
